Welcome to Mrs. Hidy's Second Grade News.  We have had a great start to this with many activities to get to know each other.  All enjoyed listening and learning as each shared their "Me Bag" we the class. 

Team Mascot Created
Our class has been busy forming a community. We have been doing many team builders and community builders so the students get to know the other students in class. For your child to succeed this year, it is important for each student to feel apart of our classroom community.  Each team has developed their mascot and has named their team. Ask your child about their mascot.

	Phonics:  We will be reviewing the Vowel Town they learned in first grade. Also we will working with the the and sh  sounds.
	·             Thanks for all the parents who have returned the registration sheet and parent contact sheet.  If you have not returned it, please fill it out and send it back.  ·      Don’t forget to send the $3.00 for the Weekly Reader. Thank you if you have already turned it in. ·      Number Sense is our first unit of study in math. During this unit the student will need to master their addition and subtraction math facts.  Playing games is a good way to reinforce the learning of the math facts. This week they have learned the game Roll a Dice.  They roll two dice and write an addition number sentence with the two numbers on the dice.  Then they add up the totals. ·      Book Reports      Your child is required to turn in 5 book reports each month. A monthly packet will be sent home next week.  This will be due on September 30.  They will receive Scholar Dollars for returning the packet.  They may turn it in before Sept. 30 if they get it done. Also they can make more book reports if they want to.  They have been shown where they can find more book report forms in the cubby in front of room.
